  • Communications Associate

    Wilmot Cancer Institute
    2015.03-Current(11 years)
Social Media: Working with a team, I focus on communicating news and stories highlighting the Wilmot Cancer Institute. I manage the Institute’s social media pages, which include Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. This includes managing an editorial calendar for the accounts and also creating content for the page, including written stories, videos and photos with written stories. Internal Communications I manage two internal newsletters for the Institute, including a weekly and monthly email newsletter for oncology faculty and staff. I helped spearhead efforts around creation of the weekly internal newsletter as a way to inform a large body of faculty and staff about events and urgent news happening each week.Media Relations: I am always seeking story ideas that could be worthy of pitching to local or national news outlets as well as trade publications. Managing media requests that come in to the team also is a major part of my role, while also keeping HIPAA privacy concerns in mind at all time. Fundraising Communications: I work closely with Wilmot’s Advancement team to support community fundraising efforts, such as an annual community race. My first year on the job, I helped promote the event, greatly increasing both participation and funds raised. We received a PRism Award for the work that went into promoting this event. Customer Service and Other Tasks: As various faculty and staff members of the Institute need assistance related to public relations - from advice on handling situations with media or patients to creating, writing or editing documents and beyond - I step in to help as needed.
