Yale School of Medicine2024.09-Current(a year)Conducting research remotely in Professor Angelique Bordeys laboratory, from Yale School of Medicine. My project is centered on analysing the efficacy of transfection of different adeno-associated viruses (AAVs) used to recapitulate somatic mosaicism in neurological disorders, particularly in tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). The objective is to develop a mice model which can recapitulate the somatic mosaicism found in patients with TSC.Research Intern
Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital2024.06-Current(a year)I have started a new position as a research intern in the laboratory of Prof. Teresa Gómez-Isla at the MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease (Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School). For three months, I will be conducting research on the topic of resilience at the synapse level in Alzheimers disease. I will be investigating the potential involvement of different mediators, including tau enzymes, on why some patients develop clinical symptoms of Alzheimers or brain-ageing-related changes earlier than others. For my other research project, we demonstrated that there is no correlation between iron distribution in the basal ganglia and off-target binding of the tau biomarker flortaucipir, used in Alzheimers disease. I will continue my research remotely during the academic year.Global Student Council Representative
CIVIS - Europes Civic University Alliance2023.10-Current(2 years)Starting from October 2023, I have been selected as a Global Student Council Member representing the Autonomous University of Madrid at CIVIS. CIVIS is a European Civic University formed by the alliance of 11 leading research higher education institutions across Europe. It aims to create a European interuniversity campus where students, academics, researchers and staff can collaborate as freely as within their institution of origin. The Global Student Council is the voice of students across partner universities and aims to ensure their goals are met and respected.Student Ambassador

European Universities Community2024.01-Current(2 years)Starting from January 2024, I have been co-leading a panel working on recommendations on the approach the European Union should take to regulate new advancements in the field of biomedicine, with a special focus on ageing and artificial intelligence. These recommendations were presented during the European Student Assembly 2024, which took place in the European Parliament Building, in Strasbourg, in April 2024. This event brought together around 250 students coming from more than 50 Erasmus+ University Alliances. Continuing this work, I have been contacting European Commission and European Parliament members, and advocating for our resolutions in several organisations including the European Medicines Agency and WHO Europe. A main long-term objective is to push for the development of a comprehensive framework which supports ageing research in Europe through Europes flagship research program, Horizon Europe.Amgen Scholar
University of Cambridge2023.07-2023.09(3 months)Awards: Awarded best poster presentation for the Cambridge Amgen Scholars cohortAs an Amgen Scholar, I will be working for eight weeks at the University of Cambridge, in Dr Van Den Ameeles laboratory. My research project concerns how metabolic enzymes involved in methionine metabolism influence gene expression in Drosophila melanogaster neuroblasts. The long-term goal is to study how this influences brain development.Research Intern
Universidad Autónoma de Madrid2023.01-2023.06(6 months)- Undertook a research project in Dr. García-Escudero’s laboratory, aiming to characterize a novel form of the tau protein which retains intron-3, and which could limit the formation of toxic tau aggregates in the brain during neurodegeneration.- Participated in laboratory meetings and seminars and learnt research techniques included western blotting, cell culturing with neural stem cells and immunochromatography.Research Intern
Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital2022.05-2022.07(3 months)I was a research intern at the Institute of Neurodegenerative Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital. My research contribution is centered on identifying molecular mechanisms leading to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia as a basis to establish new therapeutic targets for these diseases. We uncovered the benefits in of a novel immunotherapy both in improving motor and behavioural symptoms using ALS-model mice.
