(3 years 11 months) Nondestructive Characterization and Root Cause Investigations: o Skill in porosity analysis, components comparison before and after testing, internal/external characterization by Industrial Computed Tomography (NSI 5000X). o X-Ray Computed Tomography Training for root cause assessment and metallurgical evaluations in support of plant operations, new product development and product failures. Destructive Materials Characterization and Failur o Proficient with light and commercial vehicle cold end and hot end exhaust system by tear down, documentation, materials characterization and failure analysis to customer specifications. o Provide root cause corrective action support for work request towards weld evaluation, material chemistry and microstructure evaluation with formal data driven reports of test results and technical analysis. o Skill in metallurgical samples preparation, chemical/electrochemical etching, metallurgical analysis, investigate failure mode by Scanning Electron Microscope, chemical analysis by Optical Emission Spectroscope. Analytical chemistry (70%): o Utilized X- ray Fluorescence for elemental analysis and elemental distribution. Used X-ray Diffraction to identify crystalline phases and peak fitting software to calculate crystal size, lattice parameter, composition ratios, and residual stress. Using the SEM/EDS microscope system to identify elements and analysis quantitative composition. o Tested, cycled, tore down and documented Li-ion cell. Characterized Anode/ Cathode by XRD, SEM/EDS, XPS. o Collaborated with colleagues on development of new low cost lightweight alloys: Developed new method for hot pressing and provided guidelines for modifying heat treatment conditions through XRD analysis of alloy phase purity. Three US patent (2 filed and 1 in review) were generated. o Used LC/MS to separate and quantify organic electrolyte components in Li- ion Battery o Utilized Ion Chromatography and titration methods to determine the concentration of ions in unknown-solution Others (30%): o Worked with GM technical researcher to address vehicle development and warranty return issues, including Key Assist project. o Developed patents filed in US and generated GM Internal Reports o Trouble shooting and maintain instruments.
