Summary

Journalist | Communications Specialist. "Intellectually rigorous, insatiably curious, relentlessly questioning, Sarah Karacs is an insightful critic, talented journalist and born storyteller." Thanks, mum. No, actually that was a nice thing written about me by my mentor from my newspaper days in Hong Kong, who praised my "gentle determation to climb over whatever obstacles got in the way of getting and telling a good story." Hello, I'm Sarah Karacs, a journalist, copywriter, and communications specialist with a passion for hunting down and telling vivid and compelling stories. A Berlin-based global citizen with roots in the U.K., Norway and Hungary, who grew up partially in Germany and studied German and Czech at the University of Oxford, I returned here after disappearing off to China and Hong Kong for a number of years (long story). One of the many topics I'm obsessed with is how cultures collide and the (beautiful) mess they make. My experience spans newspapers, high-end magazines, digital outlets, deep tech startups, and ad and inhouse agencies. I'm a nerdy writer at heart with a love of experimenting with and nailing emerging forms of communications - text or otherwise, and am practical, imaginative and reflexive in how I get things done. A former fellow at the European Journalism Observatory, I like to write about mental health and our changing media landscape, among other things. When I'm not producing journalism, I leverage my skills and values in helping smart, thoughtful, and impact-driven people and organisations find and communicate better with their audiences. And when I'm not doing that, you can most probably find me learning a new skill, making people laugh, or trying to steal other people's dogs. An accidental health nerd (again, long story), with a habit of diving veeeery deep into topics, If you don't know me from work, you might know me from the gym or CrossFit where I nerd out on all things resilience-building, and maybe try to steal people's dogs.
