These readings are chosen for their thought-provoking and sometimes controversial viewpoints. Students are also taught the elements of argumentation and how to avoid logical fallacies.

    While employed at Shenzhen Middle School, I taught Honors English, Public Speaking/Debate, and Drama. Honors English prepares students for the kind of writing and formal English study they would expect in an American classroom. This class places a heavy focus on writing, critical reading, research, and the Latin influence on English. Public Speaking and Debate class was broken into two parts. During part one, students learn the essentials of public speaking, strategies to get over nervousness, and how to judge a speech. The second part of the class puts students into teams to debate a topic chosen by the National Forensics Society. I also volunteered as a judge and a coach. Drama was a class created and designed by me. It was Shenzhen Middle School's first English-only drama program. Students were given the choice between following a performance path, a technical path, or a hybrid of the two. Students designed, rehearsed, and performed school-wide shows. Students also read and critiqued full-length plays. During this time, I received experience in teaching SAT, AP English Language, and AP Literature.
