    Lindsey A. Wolkowicz
    1999.01-Current(27 years)
www.lindseyawolkowicz.comMy work explores the ways we build and occupy space through memory, perspective, relationship and psycho-dynamics. In my drawings, figure, surface, lines, geometry and color simultaneously interrupt and support one another. Within three-dimensional space, objects and architectural surrounds are constructed to promote a physical and evocative connection with the body of the viewer. The work is not about representing a location but instead about presenting what is found there. These bodies exist in a situation as much as they do in a location. They seek to ground themselves in the “places” they occupy through their hands, feet, through touch and strength. But they are also nowhere. Intersecting lines, partial views of the body and planes of dislocated material produce windows into this experienced place.

Observational Drawing Intensive Summer Program (June-July), Pratt Institute
    2014.01-Current(12 years)
Summer observational drawing intensive course for high school aged students in Turkey. I developed and instruct this course collaboratively with my colleague and fellow artist Casey Inch. This course is run through the Admissions department of Pratt Institute as a recruitment tool and is hosted/sponsored by Portfolio Development or College Counseling programs in Turkey including Horizon Istanbul, Pera Nest (Istanbul) and Iris Portfolio Studio (Izmir/Alacati). Program duration has ranged from a weekend workshop to a two week course and has included students who are at various stages of their secondary education and varying levels of technical ability. The primary objective is for students to produce portfolio-ready pieces while shifting their overall approach to their studio practice. The class focuses on improving students drawing skills by encouraging new ways of looking, assisting students in developing their own visual language and increasing their understanding of how to integrate formal decisions, observational practices and increasingly complex concepts to create pieces that have meaningful, clear content.Students are offered both hands on instruction and space to work independently. To emphasize critical thinking in the studio, students have opportunities for brainstorming, making unique decisions regarding subjects as well as materials and participating in the process of critique at a college level.Sessions run to date: Summer 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019 (forthcoming-August) Alacati, Turkey with Iris Portfolio Studio Summer 2016 Istanbul, Turkey with Pera Nest Summer 2014 Istanbul, Turkey with Horizon Istanbul
