· Exciting Instruments are a biotech start-up who manufacture confocal single molecule spectrometers, typically used for smFRET and florescence correlation spectroscopy. · I curated the full customer experience from initial contact to installation and on-going support. I was instrumental in guiding (largely academic) customers through funding rounds and assisting them to obtain sufficient funds to get our equipment into their laboratories. · The majority of business was conducted in the USA and UK. · Skills employed include: Business development, sales, technical sales, marketing, content creation, project management, events management, logistics, grant writing, science writing, technical document writing, biophysics, manufacturing, optics, compliance management, CRM management, operations management, social media management, data analytics, contractor management, protein labelling, DNA design, RNA design and design of experiment (DoE)/Pareto Methodology.

“Biological Control of Quantum Optics” G. J. Leggett group · A Grade 7.9 position funded by The Leverhulme Trust in collaboration with the Molecular Photonic Breadboards Team. Acted as a departmental first aider for 2 years. · Strong light matter coupling allows the formation of macroscopic quantum states. Developed a methodology to create strongly coupled surfaces from cost-effective materials, enabling more efficient organic solar cells. · Skills employed include: Organic synthesis, HPLC, prep HPLC, surface chemistry, surface characterisation, XPS spectroscopy, spectroscopic ellipsometry and solid phase peptide synthesis.

“IR Probes for Structural Biology” B. G. Davis group · A Grade 7 position funded by UCB in collaboration with R. Taylor and N. Hunt. · Utilised the Central Laser Facility’s infrared laser for two-dimensional infrared spectroscopy. · I developed a method of tagging interesting sites on proteins which undergo drastic structural changes (such as calmodulin) with infrared active groups to allow study of their structural rearrangement. · Skills employed include: Protein expression and purification, protein mass spectrometry, NMR spectroscopy, organic synthesis, protein biophysics and advanced IR spectroscopy.

· Optimisation of the rheological properties of glass slip using DoE/Pareto methodology led to projected savings of £200,000 per annum by reducing furnace costs caused by faulty coats.
