Job responsibilities
Newton American Education Studio is looking for an ambitious, adventurous, and creative American instructor to join us in Shanghai as our full-time Head of Test Preparation Programs. The Head of Test Preparation Programs' responsibilities include designing new learning activities, improving our existing SAT Reasoning Test (SAT I) and SAT Subject Tests (SAT II) program curriculum, and overseeing the implementation of the SAT preparation courses in the classroom, including future staff training and professional development. The Head of Test Preparation Programs may also be tasked with developing a new ACT preparation program in the future. Applicants will be required to sit a portion of a past SAT examination during the interview in order for us to assess ability. Prior SAT preparation experience is preferred but not required -- our SAT expert will provide training on subject knowledge if necessary. All instructional staff at Newton are committed to continually improving not only our subject knowledge but our classroom effectiveness through regular discussions, training sessions with our master teachers, and sharing best practices. Our staff all enjoy two consecutive days off per week - Monday/Tuesday during the school year, Sunday/Monday during half the summer and Saturday/Sunday during the other half of summer as well as during Spring Holiday. Although instructional staff will have to work during the smaller Chinese holidays, teaching staff will receive nearly three weeks paid holiday for Christmas / Western New Year break. Classroom sizes will not exceed ten students per class (normally eight), and hours will be capped at 20 teaching hours per week. Students will be pre-screened and selected by appropriate language ability before they are allowed to enroll in the test preparation courses. Newton is a quickly expanding, uniquely Western-owned and managed company that helps China's best and brightest Western-facing students transition to studying abroad at America's greatest schools. Since 2011, our students have earned nearly-perfect standardized test scores and acceptance letters to schools such as Notre Dame and Stanford, and have even earned full scholarships.
