Summary

I am excited to apply for the teacher position in China. I bring a special blend of cultural awareness, intellectual mastery and an extensive background in curriculum development. Furthermore, I have international teaching experience and a passion for inspiring learners through exploration. For these reasons, I am an excellent fit for this position. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science and an Honours in Geological Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, I followed a career as a consulting geologist gaining experience in data analysis, fieldwork, and managing projects involving commodities like gold and chrome. These experiences sharpened many of my skills, including problem-solving and time-management skills, which I now use in my career as a teacher. Presently, I am teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) in South Korea through the EPIK program. This experience has been vital in developing my approaches to education and teaching philosophy over the past four years. It has also been the catalyst for further study, culminating in a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with full distinctions, completed through Two Oceans Graduate Institute. In this role, I have gained achievements such as: Catering to the needs of students with varying English proficiency levels by designing and implementing English lesson plans that are created to be interactive. Encouraging the utilization of technology, such as AI-based tools, SMART boards, tablets and Google Classroom, to support independent learning and foster critical thinking. Fostering a collaborative learning environment and encouraging intercultural learning by leading extracurricular programs such as Winter English Camps. My time in South Korea has not only refined my teaching skills but has also deepened my understanding of creating inclusivity and adaptive learning environments. I am committed to helping students connect classroom learning with real-world applications, particularly in a global context.
