PRIMARY SCHOOL2021.01-2023.12(3 years)The Hague Primary At The Hague Primary I learnt to apply all the skills and experiences in Grade 1, 2 and 5. The Hague Primary was a similiar school to Edward Primary with very challenging learners and a lot of substance abuse among learners. At The Hague Primary I played a significant role as a Lay-Counsellor. I was also very active in assisting with Rugby and Athletics coaching. DRUG COUNSELLOR As a Drug Counselor, I bring a unique blend of hard and soft skills to the field of substance use counseling. My hard skills, grounded in tangible experiences, include a comprehensive understanding of the formal training requirements for substance use counseling. I have successfully completed the necessary educational components through Sober College’s School of Addiction Studies, ensuring that I am well-prepared to meet the specific standards and regulations of the state in which I practice. Edward Primary School2018.01-2020.01(2 years)I started at Edward Primary in Grade 3 in the first year and moved on to Grade 4 Here I learnt how to deal with extremely challenging conditions as the school is situated in a very low socio-economic environment. Here I learnt how to empathise with learners who might not have had a solid meal in two days. I learnt that a hungry child cannot learn and I learnt how to apply the school’s feeding scheme to hungry learners. At the same time I learnt and adapted my teaching style and methodology to ensure the learners learn the basic literacy and numeracy skills needed to be successful in their grade. I learnt and applied the adage: “Listen to the voice of the Child” - an adage I applied by listening to the needs of the learners and adapting my teaching style to their needs. I sometimes spent days teaching a grade 4 learner to read because he was ignored due to challenging behaviour in previous grades. I became aware of substance abuse among primary school learners and educated myself to identify and intervene with positive reactions. I learnt how to liaise with all role-players who couild assist in the prevention of substance abuse. REFERENCE: Shahied Meniers +27818482113 meniersshah@gmail.comPrimary School Teacher

I learnt valuable lessons in the identification of learners who have barriers to learning. I learnt to liaise with other role-players in the health sector in order to assist learners with debilitating health issues. like asthma and diabetes. Empathy is another essential soft skill I bring to the table. While I may not have personally experienced the struggles of my clients, I empathize with their journeys, forming meaningful connections that foster trust and openness.
