  • Lead Senior Teacher

    Full time faculty member of the DongZhiMen EF Smart School and currently in Shanghai at Zhongshan Park Center (2013- present) teaching English as a second language. Duties include 25 weekly teaching hours and research, preparation and lectures of interactive MS PowerPoint driven classroom learning materials. Additional responsibilities included “Life Club” activities aimed at casual grouping and social activities to expose students to native English language use. Field trips included: Lama Temple, 798 Art Zone and the first ever American Baseball Game in China. I also was responsible for many weekly language oriented events such as English Corner, Philosophy Club, Music Club, Career Corner and other activities aimed to help students use English creatively. I have been recognized for excellence in teaching with the Star Teacher award as well as the Outstanding Service Award for customer service. I currently am focused on research projects to help assimilate student OPT (Oral Placement Test) examinations as an action research project to better place students in the optimal level assessment to best reflect their level of language mastery. I served as the EEC – English Environment Coordinator to build an improved “Use” Environment managing over 20 student groups and managing others to build student confidence and mastery of the language. Currently I am working in Shanghai at ZongShan Park Center.

    Faculty member the department of General Education since 2002 and founding instructor in the Department of Multimedia since its inception in 2001 my primary responsibilities included the teaching, preparation of course materials and development of multiple format curriculum for all courses as listed below. In 2004 I was promoted to be chairman of faculty advisory which put me directly responsible for compliance administration for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Sarbanes-Oxley Ethics Compliance (Rule 406) managing over both the Long Beach and Sunnyvale campuses and 150 faculty members. Administrative service included WASC standards committees including Customer Service, Intuitional Integrity, Faculty Development, Campus Technology, Curriculum Review & Development, Library, and Multimedia Industry Relations. Currently serving as a faculty judge on the campus review committee on student affairs and conflicts. Administratively assisted in pre-registration, orientation events and trained sales staff on Brook’s academic programs. Further assisted in the Multimedia Department management issues reviewing potential hires, scheduling, book-list oversight, student issues and faculty mentoring. In 2002 started new customer service efforts by starting a quarterly “Open Student Forum” to allow students to meet and talk directly to the President of the college to give students a way to address their problems and concerns. Honors include “Student’s Choice Award 2005”, nominated as “Educator of the Year for 2003” to parent company Career Education International, “Outstanding Multimedia Instructor of 2003”, Faculty vote won for “Crystal Apple Award for excellence in teaching 2003” and numerous certificates for excellence in retention, peer faculty and student mentoring. Brooks was announced to be in closure with the land for sale in October 2006 and my contract for teaching ended on January 1, 2007.
