Visitors to mainland China need visas for the Chinese mainland. Visa should be processed ahead of schedule. The type of visa you should apply for depends on your main purpose of travel.

There are eight main visa types: Business (m), non-business (f), tourism (L), work (z), student (x), private (s), family reunion (q), the crew (c).

Different Us Visa To China

Tourist visa

To those who plan to visit, visit, or visit friends in China. Proof of travel, such as flight confirmation, hotel reservation or private invitation, must be provided. Tourists can choose one way, two way or more. The length of stay (per visit) is usually 30-60 days. U.S. passport holders may enter the country for more than 10 years.

Business visa (m)

The business m visa is issued to those who intend to represent American enterprises in business and trade activities in China. M visa is usually issued for single entry, double-entry or multiple entries. Visa m is valid for up to 10 years. According to the specific situation of the Chinese consulate, the stay time (each visit) is usually 30-60 days.

China F visa

F visa shall be issued to those who represent American employers to conduct research, scientific and cultural exchanges in China. Applicants shall not be paid by companies or institutions in China, otherwise, Z visa is required. Visa F (nontrade or non-commercial) is currently issued only once for entry. The length of stay (per visit) is usually 30-60 days.

Work permit (z)

To those employed in China. A work permit or employment permit issued by the government is required. Visa Z is issued for one entry only. Z visa holder shall go to the Public Security Bureau (police station) to register and apply for the residence permit within 30 days from the date of entry. A residence permit allows multiple entries. Visa Z is also issued to people engaged in business activities in China. For high-level talents or talents in urgent need of skills in China, R visa shall be issued.

Study visa (x1 / x2)

To students admitted to Chinese universities. Student visas are divided into X1 and x2. X1 is for foreign students who have been studying in China for more than 6 months. X2 to those who come to China for the same purpose but for less than 6 months. Visa X2 is one entry only. X1 visa can be issued for multiple entry with a maximum validity of 5 years.

China S1 visa

Private visa (S1, long term)

To those who come to China to live with their immediate family members who work or study in China, or to those who come to China to handle other private affairs. It is planned to stay in China for more than 180 days. " Immediate family members refer to spouses, parents, children under the age of 18 or parents in law. There must be original proof of kinship. S1 visa is issued for one entry only. The person holding S1 visa shall go through the formalities of residence permit registration and application at the Public Security Bureau (police station) within 30 days from the date of entry. A residence permit allows multiple entries.

China S2 visa

Private visa (S2, short term)

To non Chinese immediate family members (such as US citizens) who are interested in visiting work or study in China. The scheduled stay in China is usually 30-90 days per visit. Visiting family members requires proof of kinship. S2 visa is usually issued for multiple entry. Multiple entries for up to 10 years are only issued to U.S. passport holders.

Chinese crew visa

Crew visa (c)

To foreign crew members using international means of transport, including pilots of aircraft, trains, ships and motor vehicles engaged in cross-border transport activities. Multiple entry for up to five years is only issued to U.S. passport holders.

China group visa

Group visa

A group visa is a special type of visa issued to a tour group. At least five (5) members of the tour group must travel together in China. Group visas are issued as a separate form rather than on individual passports. An official visa notice is required from CTS, CITS, CYTS or any head office of China National Tourism Administration.
