Main Accountabilities All teachers are subject to the conditions of employment set out in their employment contract. This details the professional and particular duties required of teachers, together with benefits provided by the College. The duties of an English Teacher are as follows: Ensure that safeguarding, health and safety, and all other College policies are known, understood and embedded into practice; To be responsible for planning and facilitating creative and engaging learning, in a highly inclusive environment; To be able to use formative assessment to inform planning and deliver a personalised curriculum for each child; To develop a nurturing and safe environment in which children thrive in their learning; To develop an environment of inquiry, where students’ questions are valued and lead their learning journey; To develop excellent relationships with parents and the wider community,through regular and effective communication; To have and develop further a range of techniques to cater for English Language Learners; To deliver appropriately-planned lessons, learning encounters, sequences of lessons and programmes of study; To have a detailed and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of examination board assessment and syllabus requirements; To offer regular and constructive feedback to help students close the gap between where they are now, and where they wish to be; To challenge each pupil to be the best they can be, supporting them to reach their full potential; To be committed to the ongoing development of a holistic, child-centred curriculum, drawing on best practice from around the world; Have a keen focus the approaches to learning taken by students, creating an engaging learning environment wherethey can learn independently, challenge their own thinking, think creatively and solve problems; Ensure that the learning environment is a place of full inclusivity,differentiating learning to support individual needs; Maintain marking and assessmentrecords and have a clear understanding of pupils’ progress in learning; Demonstrate proactive and positive ways of supporting students where barriers are found; Effectively support each student’s personal, social and emotional development; Take an active role as a Personal Tutor to a group of tutees within a school Grade; Participate fully in the life ofthe school, including actively supporting co-curricular activities (Enrichment), duties such as supervision,evening prep, guided readingand BoardingHouse life; Engage in positive behaviour management to ensure a caring and respectful environment; To teach as required across the full age range of Middle and Senior School (Grades 6-12) including assisting with Primary School subject teaching on occasion; Possess a genuine passion for subjectspecialism.
Job Requirements
Minimum Typical Education: A degree and recognised teaching qualification, postgraduateDiploma/Higher degree in education isdesirable. Evidence of relevant continual professional development Minimum Typical Experience: A minimum of 2 years classroom experience Experience ofteachingMYP/IGCSE in chosen subject, withexperience of A Level and IBDP an advantage Core Professional / Other Competencies required: Understanding of and commitment to safeguarding children Willingness to develop a detailed knowledge and understandingof thecurriculum. An ability to promote eachstudent’slearning throughcontinualformative assessment within the classroom Effective use of ICT in all aspects of learning and teaching Involvement in co-curricular programmes Experience of working in aninternational school is preferred Experience of teaching through Inquiry, and having a goodunderstanding of what this means/looks like in the classroom is preferred Willingness to participate in, though not necessarily experience of, fullboardinglife.
