Application object

After entering China, foreigners who need to stay in China for non-diplomatic or official reasons may apply to the Exit and Entry Administration of the public security organ for visa extension, renewal, reissue, and issuance, renewal and reissue of residence certificates, as well as the issuance, extension, renewal, and reissue of residence certificates in accordance with regulations.

Application organization

Foreigners shall apply for visa certificates to the entry-exit administration of public security organs at or above the county level entrusted by the Ministry of public security.

Application method

When an alien applies for the extension, renewal, reissue of a visa or residence certificate or a residence certificate, he/she shall go through the relevant formalities with the exit Entry Administration of the public security organ. Under any of the following circumstances, the inviting unit or individual, the relative of the applicant or the relevant special service institution may apply for it:

(1) Those who are under the age of 16 or over the age of 60 or who are inconvenient to move due to diseases or other reasons;

(2) Those who do not enter China for the first time and have a good record of stay in China;

(3) The inviting unit or individual provides guarantee measures for the expenses needed by the foreigner during his stay in China.

Aliens applying for residence certificates shall go through the relevant formalities with the exit Entry Administration of the public security organ in person. In the case of high-level talents in need of the state, special talents in urgent need and in the circumstances as mentioned in the first paragraph of the preceding paragraph, an inviting unit or individual, relatives of the applicant, and relevant special service agencies may apply for them on behalf of them.

Application procedures

Foreigners applying for visa certificates shall accept inquiries from the exit Entry Administration of the public security organ. If the exit Entry Administration of the public security organ needs to verify the relevant information with the inviting unit (individual), the relevant unit (individual) shall cooperate. If the applicant or the relevant unit or individual fails to accept the interview within the agreed time according to the notice of the exit Entry Administration of the public security organ without justifiable reasons, the exit Entry Administration of the public security organ may refuse to issue the visa certificate according to law.

Foreigners applying for visa documents shall submit their own valid or other international travel documents, fill in the application form for visa documents for foreigners, submit a photo that meets the requirements, and submit the supporting materials related to the application cause.

Acceptance receipt

The exit Entry Administration of the public security organ shall accept and issue the acceptance receipt for the visa application that meets the acceptance conditions upon examination, and decide whether to issue or not within the validity period of the acceptance receipt. The validity period of receipt for visa and residence permit applications shall not exceed 7 working days from the date of acceptance; the validity period of receipt for residence permit applications shall not exceed 15 working days from the date of acceptance.

If the passport or other international travel documents held by the applicant are received and deposited, the applicant may stay in China legally with the receipt of acceptance; If there are legitimate reasons, they may apply to the exit Entry Administration of the public security organ for temporary withdrawal of passports or other international travel documents, but they shall be returned within the validity period of the receipt so as not to affect the issuance of corresponding visa documents by the exit Entry Administration of the public security organ.

Certification materials required for visa extension

An alien applying for an extension of the stay period of a visa shall apply to the exit Entry Administration of the public security organ 7 days before the expiration of the stay period indicated in the visa, and shall submit relevant application supporting materials as required:

(1) The holder of visa C shall submit a letter of certification issued by the competent department of the people's government at or above the county level or the local civil aviation, railway, highway, port and other transportation companies. The stay period can be extended for no more than 30 days.

(2) F visa holders shall submit the letter of certification issued by the invitation and reception unit. The unit that has not been put on record shall also submit the registration certificate. The stay period can be extended for no more than 180 days.

(3) Those who hold visa g shall submit the letter of certification from the reception unit and the plane (vehicle, ship) ticket to the country (region) where the date and seat have been determined. The stay period can be extended for no more than 30 days.

(4) A letter of certification issued by the Foreign Affairs Department of the people's government at the provincial level shall be submitted to the holder of visa J2. The stay period can be extended for no more than 30 days.

(5) For L visa holders, the travel plan and schedule shall be submitted, and for group tourism, the travel agency certification letter shall also be submitted. The stay period can be extended for no more than 30 days.

(6) For the holders of M visa, they shall submit the letter of certification issued by the local invitation or reception unit or individual, and for the units that have not been put on record, they shall also submit the registration certificate. If the partner is an individual, the letter issued shall be signed and submitted with the certificate of local permanent residence or the certificate of actual residence. The stay period can be extended for no more than 180 days.

(7) The applicant with Q2 visa shall submit the letter, certificate and family member relationship certificate issued by the visited person. The stay period can be extended for no more than 180 days.

(8) For the holder of the R visa, the letter of certification of the invitation and reception unit shall be submitted, and the registration certificate shall also be submitted for the unit that has not been put on record. The stay period can be extended for no more than 180 days.

(9) In case of visa S2, the visiting person shall submit the letter issued by the visited person, Alien Residence Certificate and family member relationship certificate. Other personnel shall submit relevant certificates for handling private affairs or for humanitarian reasons. For the visitors, the stay period can be extended
