yes. U.S. citizens who plans to visit China Chinese mainland must apply for entry visa through the Chinese embassy or consulate general.

China's visa requirements for US citizens vary slightly for each type of Chinese visa. I'll look at the following differences again, but first of all, there are some items here, no matter what kind of Chinese visa you apply for, they are the same.

U.S. passport: passport must be valid for 6 months from the date of your scheduled landing in China. It also requires at least two (2) blank pages on the passport - one for visa and one for customs stamp.

The correct picture of head: this picture must meet the general requirements of all passport and visa photos: no headscarf, no smile, no blindfold (normal glasses are allowed, no sunglasses). The background should be pure white.

Itinerary with hotel and flight confirmation: China requires you to submit your itinerary, including confirmed hotels and flights. These are annoying demands, creative solutions, if you can't come up with these easy. Remember, once you get a visa, you don't need to keep the same itinerary. When you travel, no place in China will check your visa against the itinerary you submitted.

This is a requirement for all visa applicants, whether you are a student, tourist or business person.

If you plan to apply for a specific visa other than a travel (L) visa, please check the following requirements:

China C visa (crew): you also need to show the letter of guarantee issued by your transportation company.

China J visa (reporter): you need to show the visa notification issued by the China Information Department of the Ministry of foreign affairs of China. This is in addition to a formal letter from your media organization.

China M visa (business): business personnel needs to show invitation letters from Chinese trade partners or exhibition organizers.

Visa (home visit) for the first and second quarters of China: you need invitations from Chinese citizens, including residence permits, copies of passports and other documents.

China S1 & S2 visa (student): students are required to submit form JW202 to their institutions. Once approved, they will receive an invitation to submit it with their Chinese visa application.

China Z visa (work visa): if you want to teach English or other forms of business in China, you need to submit a foreign employment permit and an invitation letter from the company you work with. Your school or company should provide these.

How much is a Chinese visa with a U.S. passport?

By 2020, Chinese visa fees for US citizens were $140. This is the same whether you apply for a six-month visa, a one-year visa or a 10-year visa.

Visa service fees for US citizens can be paid by visa, MasterCard, money order or cashier's check payable to "Chinese embassy". The Chinese embassy does not accept cash and personal checks.

How long does it take to get a Chinese visa in the United States?

According to the website of the Chinese Embassy, the normal visa processing time should be 4 working days. In my experience, it's more like 5-7 working days.

You can pay extra for express service (extra $20 / visa, return within 2-3 working days) or emergency service (extra $30 / visa, return within 1 working day). Emergency services are allowed only in extreme cases approved by the consulate.
