Summary

Dear team of Tencent, I am writing to express my keen interest in your company and apply for the position of Mobile Games Translator(English-French). Based in Edinburgh, where I am entitled to work, I am a native French speaker with a solid educational background in art history, literature, humanities and languages. I have several years of experience as a freelance translator and a long-time passion for video games (which started with the Sega in my childhood). Although my studies were geared towards an academic career, my various translation assignments made me realise that I enjoy this field more. I am currently seeking an opportunity to learn more about the games industry and I am confident in my ability to contribute effectively to your projects. My freelance work provided me with a wealth of experience in proofreading and translation, primarily between English and French, as well as Thai to French or English. I have recently completed a co-translation project from French to English for an art history book ('Horimono Shashin: Tattooing and Photography in Japan, 1850-1900', by Xavier Durand and Claude Estèbe, Edokki Editions, St-Jacques de la Lande, France, 192 pages, published in December 2024) and my clients have particularly appreciated my dedication and my capacity to write engagingly while maintaining the integrity of the original text. I hold a PhD in Cinema and Media Studies from the University of Paris 3, Sorbonne Nouvelle, complemented by an MA in Arts, Languages and Literature. My journey as a film researcher between France and Thailand has led me to write and translate a large quantity of texts related to visual arts, either for academic journals or for magazines targeting a wide audience. This experience has not only equipped me with a thorough understanding of intercultural communication but has also nurtured my strong attention to detail. Throughout the past twelve years, I have also collaborated with various cultural organisations, either as a conference interpreter (French-English) or a film programmer and presenter. These missions have given me a strong sense of teamwork and have honed my ability to effectively manage projects. I am eager to develop my skills in a new way and, as a constant gamer, I am excited about the opportunity to work for a company such as yours and collaborate with talented professionals who are equally passionate about translation. I believe my sense of organisation will allow me to play a supportive role within your team, ensuring that projects run smoothly and all translations meet the highest quality standards. Committed to continuous learning and available for part-time or full-time remote work, I can adapt flexibly to your needs. Thank you for considering my application. Yours sincerely, Aliosha Herrera
