Job responsibilities
About Nexus Modular.: Nexus Modular is a premium commercial furniture brand founded in Singapore. We specialise in designing and producing high-quality furniture for commercial use. Job Description: Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Partition System Engineer with a background in high-end commercial system furniture to lead the structural development of a new modular wall panel system. This is a hands-on R&D role involving the full product lifecycle—from concept validation and prototyping to mass production. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in modular partitions, acoustic systems, or architectural glazing, with a deep understanding of acoustics, structural integrity, building safety regulations, and premium design aesthetics. Key Responsibilities • Modular System Development: Lead the structural design of a reconfigurable wall system, including frame design, connection mechanisms, mounting methods, hidden cabling paths, and hardware integration. • Technical Design & Prototyping: Produce detailed 2D and 3D engineering drawings (CAD/SolidWorks), BOMs, and technical documentation. Oversee sample prototyping, testing, and structural optimisation to ensure functional and aesthetic quality. • Building Compliance & Safety: Ensure product designs meet relevant building codes, fire safety, indoor air quality, and occupational health regulations in key international markets. Collaborate with testing bodies to obtain required certifications. • Documentation & Manuals: Create clear, professional English technical documents, including product specifications, installation guides, maintenance instructions, and warranty manuals. • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product design, engineering, QC, procurement, and suppliers to ensure the structure meets production, cost, and user requirements. • Product Optimisation & Innovation: Continuously explore new materials, connection technologies, and acoustic strategies. Lead structural innovations to support product standardisation and scalability. • Quality & Compliance: Ensure designs meet international acoustic standards (e.g. ISO 23351-1, STC/NRC ratings) and are production-ready for global commercial environments.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications & Skills • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field. • 5+ years of experience in structural design for high-end office partitions, demountable wall systems, or glazed/acoustic window frames. • Proven experience developing modular products (e.g. reconfigurable wall panel products from Haworth or Steelcase) from concept to mass production is preferred. • Proficient in CAD (2D) and 3D modelling tools (SolidWorks); visualisation tools like KeyShot are a plus. • Familiarity with extruded aluminium profiles, click/lock installation systems, and integration of multiple materials (wood, aluminium, glass, acoustic panels, etc.). • Strong understanding of acoustic product development and compliance with ISO 23351-1, STC, and NRC standards. • Knowledge of fire-rated wall construction, flame spread regulations, and materials compliance (e.g. ASTM E84, EN 13501-1) is a strong asset. • Experience working with international projects or understanding global workspace trends is preferred. • Strong communication skills in both English and Chinese; capable of producing clear and professional technical documentation. • Detail-oriented, self-driven, and capable of working independently while collaborating across teams.
