Job responsibilities
- Designs, develops and implements Java-based applications, including system architecture, system design and coding. - Perform unit testing, integration testing and debugging of Java applications to ensure quality and reliability. - Work with database systems to design and implement data structures as well as perform SQL development and optimisation. - Work with a team of developers, including team leaders, system architects, and other engineers to ensure successful completion of project goals. - Participate in code reviews and pair programming to improve code quality and identify potential areas for improvement. - Keeps abreast of the latest technologies, frameworks, and industry best practices for individual and team development. - Document system design, implementation details, and other relevant information for internal use and communication with clients. - Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues including performance optimisation, scalability issues and security vulnerabilities. - Work on multiple projects simultaneously, managing time effectively and prioritising tasks to meet deadlines. - Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to team members to improve team performance and foster a culture of learning. - In addition to the above responsibilities, the Java Engineer should have a good understanding of web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and AJAX, and be familiar with related technologies such as XML, JSON and RESTful APIs. They should also have strong problem solving skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Job Requirements
- Java Programming Language Savvy: Solid grasp of Java programming fundamentals, including object-oriented programming concepts, data structures, algorithms, and design patterns. - Java Frameworks: Familiarity with common Java frameworks such as Spring, Hibernate and MyBatis, and the ability to effectively apply these frameworks in project development. - Database Knowledge: Familiarity with relational databases such as MySQL, Oracle, etc. and the ability to integrate them with Java applications through JDBC or ORM frameworks. - Web development skills: Knowledge of web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc., and familiarity with Java-based web frameworks such as Spring MVC, JSF or Struts. - Version Control: Familiarity with version control systems such as Git to manage code changes and collaborate with team members. - Testing: Familiarity with testing frameworks and techniques such as JUnit for writing unit tests, integration tests, and performing other testing activities. - Problem Solving Skills: Ability to analyse complex problems, identify root causes and develop effective solutions. - Software Development Life Cycle: Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and experience working in an Agile development environment. - Tools and IDEs: Proficiency with development tools and Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) such as Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA or NetBeans. - Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, stakeholders and other departments.
