Disney English is a great idea and a life-changing opportunity for those who want to experience another culture entirely. If this article can inform and interest people, then I have done my job.

What is Disney English?

Disney English is a series of language centers in China that teaches English as a second language to children. Unlike other language centers and schools, Disney English educates through the use of a litany of Disney IPs.

Lessons are designed in advance and are themed around Disney properties. For example, students learn about jungle animals with the help of The Jungle Book, toys with the help of Toy Story, and rooms in the house with the help of Winnie the Pooh and friends.

Unlike a typical school schedule, students come to this school either after school or on the weekend for either one, two-hour session or two, one-hour sessions. Most students sign up for a one-year contract, but they can stay longer. The curriculum is designed for 3-11 year-olds, but most students are between 3-7 years old.

I loved teaching with Disney properties, and I really enjoyed the content. The lessons were enjoyable and the students were a joy to work with. I was really sad to leave my students behind when I left the company. They really did make the classes fun and helped me get through the toughest days.

One of the big worries for new recruits is whether or not they will be in the classroom on their own. This is not the case. Each Foreign Trainer (English teacher) has a co-teacher referred to as a Learning Partner. LPs are Chinese natives and incredible assets. They don't get the credit they deserve, but Disney English wouldn't exist without them.

What was my experience working for Disney English?

There are good and bad things about working for Disney. It's not a job for everyone. Working for a multinational company can be challenging, but the benefits are worth it.

I left my job at DE after a few years, but it was a life-changing experience. I am grateful for the opportunity to work for DE and to have seen and experienced so many amazing things.

One of the highlights of my time as CEO was the opportunity to see Shanghai Disney Resort grow. Cast Members were invited to test the park before it opened to the public.

I was lucky enough to visit the park on opening day, and I visited SDR a lot in 2016 and 2017. It was great to see how much the park has grown and developed since its opening. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to attend the Disney English program.
