Clinical Physiotherapist(Elective)
Bradford Dragons Basketball Club2024.08-2024.09(2 months)In 2024 i had the amazing opportunity to get a position on the Work the World program in the Philipines! I had the opportunity to work with a wide range of patients, supporting rehabilitation from conditions such as stroke, various neurological disorders, acute trauma cases, and respiratory conditions. It was a unique and eye-opening experience that allowed me to understand how physiotherapy is delivered in a different healthcare setting compared to the Western world. I developed a deep appreciation for the adaptability and creativity shown by both practitioners and patients when working with limited resources.I was also given the chance to share my own knowledge with local physiotherapy and medical students by delivering teaching sessions on the treatment approaches and interventions I commonly use in practice. Additionally I had the opportunity to observe a range of surgical procedures such as hip and knee replacements, which gave me a much clearer understanding of the post-operative process and how it informs rehabilitation planning. This experience not only broadened my clinical knowledge but also strengthened my cultural awareness, communication skills, and appreciation for the global physiotherapy community | Oct 24- Jan 24 I had the opportunity to work closely with athletes and support their physical health throughout training and competition. My role involved providing first aid during both practices and games, ensuring quick and effective responses to injuries on the spot. I offered exercise advice tailored to each player's needs focusing on injury prevention and recovery strategies. Under supervision, I carried out soft tissue massage and various manual therapeutic techniques to help with recovery. I also played a part in supporting rehabilitation plans, helping athletes through their recovery by assisting with exercise progression and checking in on their progress regularly. This experience really helped me grow in confidence, improved my hands-on clinical skills, and gave me a deeper understanding of the demands athletes face and how best to support them in a high-performance environment.
