Summary
HR Professional in Food Retail Industry and Non-Profit Organizations. Immediately after receiving my master’s degree in Latin American Studies from UCSD, given my multilingual, cross-cultural and teaching experiences, I landed a training specialist position and started my career in Human Resources and talent management for over a decade. Looking back today, there is a calling for my dedication and mission to help individuals with landing a job where they can unleash their potential. Since junior college, I was mesmerized in a multilingual learning environment. Besides my native languages—Chinese and Taiwanese, I learned to speak English, Spanish, and (un peu) French. That opened the door for me to work as local guide and interpreter in several international events hosted in my home country while I was in the undergraduate and graduate studies. I met friends and business professionals from Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru, Spain, and Slovenia. Since then, I have unexplainable passion in knowing people from different countries and helping them have the best guest experience during their visit to my country. Deep in my heart, the power of language, genuine kindness, and respect can break down cultural barriers and connect people from all around the world. During my three years of service as an academic advisor and instructor at my alma mater, I took ownership in building relationship and trust and helping students succeed in their college life, on top of advising courses that matched their needs and interests. Nonetheless, my heart in HR was not inspired until I started my career as a corporate training specialist. As I shifted my career focus from academia to corporate, from research to people management, I found sparks in what I do knowing that I can have impact on people’s lives by helping them land a job where they would find sense of belonging and can connect with people they meet there. My strengths of being an achiever and a relator are both fulfilled along with my personal growth and professional development in HR’s core functions along the way. Now I would say aside from spending time with family and friends, reading, solving jigsaw puzzles, building LEGO collections, something I find rewarding to do outside of work is: helping friends connect with people, jobs, resources, support groups, or learning opportunities that may cultivate them to become their best selves.
