How can foreigners extend their visa stay?

If the period of stay specified in the visa held by an alien does not exceed 180 days,

the holder shall stay in China on the basis of the visa and in accordance with the period of stay specified in the visa.

If the holder needs to extend the period of stay specified in the visa,

he or she shall apply to the exit-entry administration agency of the public security organ of the local people's government at or above the county level of the place where he or she is staying seven days before the expiration date of the period of stay specified in the visa,

and shall submit the relevant documents concerning the reason for application in accordance with the requirements.

If, after examination, the reason for extension is reasonable and sufficient, the extension of the period of stay shall be granted;

if the extension of the period of stay is not granted, the visitor shall leave the country on schedule.

The extension of the period of stay of a visa shall not cumulatively exceed the period of stay originally stated in the visa.
