Q: If a foreigner refuses to leave the country after being informed of the deadline, what is the next step? A: Deportation is highly likely. According to Article 62 of the Departure and Re-entry Administration Law, an alien may be deported if he/she is in one of the following situations: (1) A foreigner who has been sentenced to a time limit for departure and fails to leave the country within the time limit; (2) In cases where he or she is not allowed to enter the country (3) Illegal residence or illegal employment; (4) Violation of this Law or other laws or administrative regulations requiring deportation. Other persons outside the country who fall under one of the circumstances listed in the preceding paragraph may be deported in accordance with the law.
