Many people were easy to confuse the difference between "visa" and "residence permit" when consulting work visa. In order to better distinguish the difference between the two, we made a comparison for you.
PART 01 Residence permit
1, The place of issuance is different
Visas for foreigners to China are usually issued by Chinese embassies and consulates abroad.
The residence permit is issued by the Exit and Entry Administration department in China.
2, The object of issuance is different.
There are generally five categories of residence permits:
(1) Work type: Work permits issued by local human resources and social security, foreign experts and other competent departments as well as letters of certification issued by work units shall be submitted for entry with Z-visa; Holders of other types of visas shall also submit certification materials that meet the requirements and requirements of high-level foreign talents, urgently needed specialized talents and investors determined by the competent departments of the Chinese government. A residence permit with a residence period of no more than five years may be issued to foreign high-level talents, urgently needed specialized talents and investors. A residence permit with a residence period of no more than two years may be issued to a person who works in a reputable record-keeping unit; Other persons may be issued residence certificates with a residence period of no more than one year.
(2) Study: Applicants with X1 visa shall submit a letter from the school indicating the period of study and an admission or enrollment certificate. Residence permits corresponding to the period of study indicated by the school may be issued.
(3) Journalists: Those who enter China with J1 visa shall submit a letter issued by the foreign affairs department of the provincial people's government and a press Card issued after verification. A residence permit with a residence period of no more than 1 year may be issued.
(4) Reunion category: The applicant holding Q1 visa shall submit the identity certificate of the person to be visited and the letter explaining the relationship between family members. For persons under the age of 18 or over the age of 60, a residence permit with a residence period of no more than three years may be issued, and for persons under the age of 18, the expiration date of the residence period shall not exceed the age of 18. Other persons may be issued residence certificates with a residence period of not more than 2 years.
(5) Personal affairs: For those who enter the country with S1 visa, the visiting personnel shall submit a letter of explanation of the relationship of relatives (spouse, parents, parents of spouse, children under the age of 18) and residence certificate issued by the person to be visited. A residence permit corresponding to the duration of residence in China of the person to be visited may be issued. Other personnel shall submit supporting materials related to handling personal affairs. A residence permit with a residence period of no more than 1 year may be issued.
PART 02 Visa
There are many kinds of visas.
There are three main types of visas: diplomatic visa, official visa and ordinary visa. That is, those who hold diplomatic passports are issued diplomatic visas; Holders of official passports shall be issued official visas; Holders of ordinary passports are issued ordinary visas.
It is divided into exit visa, entry visa, exit visa and re-entry visa according to the entry and exit conditions.
An exit visa only allows the holder to leave the country. For entry, a re-entry visa is required. Entry visa: The holder is only allowed to enter the country. If he/she needs to leave the country, he/she must apply for an exit visa. Exit/Entry Visa: The holder may exit or re-enter the country. Multiple entry/Exit visa: The holder is allowed to enter or leave the country within the validity period of the visa.
Entry and exit can be divided into immigrant visa, non-immigrant visa, study visa, tourist visa, work visa, business visa and family visa, etc.
It is divided into long-term visa and short-term visa according to the length of time.
